We looked at a lot of land before we chose our first three corners of Romania. The test was simple, if hard to put into words: could you feel your shoulders drop the moment you arrived? Everywhere we kept coming back to was somewhere the landscape did most of the work.
Valiug gave us mountain water and pine: a lake in the Semenic massif where the mornings are cold and clean. Dubova gave us the Danube carving through the Cazane gorges, where the cliffs lean in and the river goes quiet. Vama Veche gave us the opposite energy entirely: the free-spirited edge of the Black Sea, salt in the air, no rush to be anywhere.
Three places, three completely different kinds of quiet. Two more are on the way. Each one had to earn its place the same way: by changing how it felt to simply stand there.
